Kronos raises titanium dioxide prices

Kronos Worldwide Inc., which makes chemicals used to whiten paper and plastics, on Friday said it was raising prices of titanium dioxide globally.

The company will raise North American titanium dioxide (TiO2) prices by $0,05 per pound on Jan. 1, on top of a $0,06 per pound price increase in October. Also on Jan. 1, the company will hike prices of the pigment by $150 per metric ton in its Asia Pacific, Latin America, Middle Eastern and African markets, on top of a $180 per metric ton increase in October.

In Europe, the company will increase prices by 130 euros per metric ton, or $154, on Jan. 15, on top of a 150 euro per metric ton increase, or $180, in October.

Titanium dioxide price hikes are applicable as contracts permit.

Kronos shares rose 70 cents, or 2.3 percent, to $31.16 in afternoon trading on the New York Stock Exchange.
