How to Properly Care for Your Garden Tractor?

Many gardening equipment suppliers and manufacturers describe the care requirements for the product in their instructions. They emphasize that the equipment must be serviced in a timely manner.

The basic care of a garden tractor consists of regular cleaning of the working parts of the machine from dirt and grass that has been mowed. It is the grass sap that destroys the coating of the metal mowing deck - it corrodes the material.

How to Properly Care for Your Garden Tractor

It is advisable to wash the mower deck thoroughly after each mowing. The grass that adheres to it is saturated with juice. When it dries and hardens it is difficult to remove even with a knife. In such a case, the grass buildup impairs the efficiency of the machine - it quickly rots the cutting deck.

It is better to disconnect the battery from the tractor if you do not use it for more than three weeks. Almost all garden models have an open circuit. The battery will gradually run down if you just stand there without using it for a long time.

Garden tractors and mini-riders can be compared to a car that is serviced on time according to the product data sheet. The passport is usually enclosed.

It is necessary to change the oil in the engine regularly - every 100 moto-hours of operation or once a year - as well as the oil filter. A new fuel filter should be installed once a season. Don't forget to clean the air filter when dirty, change the oil in the transmission every 300 moto-hours, lubricate the steering rack, wheel axles, front axle and drive belts, and sharpen cutter knives.

All these procedures can also be done by a specialized dealer who usually has a service center.

What to consider when buying a garden tractor

  • You need to determine what tasks the tractor will perform. It can only mow the grass or perform a number of other functions.
  • Choose a garden tractor model based on the area and landscape of the site. The larger it is, the more powerful equipment should be. If there will be obstacles in the way of the garden tractor, you will need a maneuverable model.
  • If the garden tractor can be equipped with attachments, the model will be a multifunctional machine.

How to Choose an Attachment for a Garden Tractor?

You buy a garden tractor to save time and effort when cutting the grass. The additional functions of the machine and its equipment make the work even easier. Garden tractors can be outfitted with a wide range of attachments like a sweeper and snow blower. For example, a blade, chains, or rotary snow blower. The equipment can also be a lawn roller, lawn comber, aerator, cart and sprayer. If a blade blade is installed on the tractor, snow clearing becomes easier. Gardening machines have many different features that are included as part of the factory fitment. Each manufacturer has its own pricing policy, so it is better to choose guided by the cost. Usually, attachments from all manufacturers have to be purchased separately, but these additional costs are repaid on average in the next 1-2 years - depending on the number of hours of operation.
